What theme do you think DIckinson is trying to portray in this poem?

The Brain, within its Groove

Runs evenly—and true—

But let a Splinter swerve—

'Twere easier for You—

To put a Current back—

When Floods have slit the Hills—

And scooped a Turnpike for Themselves—

And trodden out the Mills—

  1. What a way to express herself.  To me Dickinson is saying that she changed her mind when she was betrayed. But it was easy for him to pretend nothing serious had happened and he wanted to get together again.  But for her, it was much too late.
