  1. If the dress is appropriate for the wedding,,I don't know why.. I have seen many colors in weddings,as a guest and a best man many times,it all depends on how the bride wishes to be viewed..

Normally black is for funeral's, as is shows grief and sadness, and bright color's for weddings, things that show happiness...

I should say pretty colors,of which stands out as beautiful to sight, not black and plan...

But if the black is made for the wedding and looks like a wedding dress, then why not,it's her image she is showing to everyone...

  2. its gothic or emoic

  3. Guests may wear black because it's classy.  A bride should not wear black or red to a wedding because it's not PC.  If you're goth, punk, or emo, I suppose it would be o.k.  But your family would not approve.

  4. It's common-place in many cultures such as asian-indian or chinese, for women to wear red and gold to their weddings, and in India men will often wear white. But in traditional English and American culture it is usual to wear a white gown and men to wear a black tux. I suppose women wearing a black gown would be seen as mourning as black is usually worn to funerals. To be honest, I think one should wear whatever they like to their own wedding, it's your day, have it how you want. But people should not impose wearing black to someone elses wedding as it appears extremely rude.

  5. Because black is the color for mourning. I dont know what the deal is with red. My cousin had red satin bride maids dresses at her wedding, and red roses and callalillies and it was beautiful. And the men wore red ties and vests.

  6. Oh good Lord!  Aren't we passed those foolish rules and traditions yet???

  7. Break tradition. Who said a bride HAS to wear white? Tradition! Break the mold, start a new tradition! You only go through life once, do what YOU want to do, not what ANYONE tells you! Provided it's legal of course!

  8. Indian women often wear red to their weddings, it's considered a sign of luck and prosperity - think it's just a western puritanical Christian thing :-)

  9. the point of wearing white is to show pureness. It goes along with the whole, no s*x before marriage stuff. The white means pure..and black..well. its opposite..Which is why most brides have white wedding dresses. Its just proper and tradition.

Personally, i'm having a black one

    =]

  10. well in china they all wear red, it's a sign of good luck and happiness and all those good things

but i think it's because western people commonly associate red with blood. and black with funurals, and marriage as sacred, and good.

so mixing those things together is quite the taboo

  11. TO a wedding?

    I've never heard that.

Black, maybe because people think YOU think the wedding will end tragically or with a divorce.

The typical symbols of black are death, tragedy, etc...

Red, love, passion, lust, s*x, etc...

The reasons why brides traditionally wear white is because it stands for purity.

  12. Well, I'm certainly not a virgin and everybody at the grocery store will know it too once they get a glimpse of my daughter... will that stop me from wearing white...... I don't think so. I always thought that wearing black is a sign of disrespect. Red?..  isn't that the symbolic color of love?... I think it was Liza Minelli that wore a red bridal gown, but she was also escorted down the aisle by Michael Jackson. Eccentric much?

  13. To those who believe in "omens" this is a bad omen.

  14. i personally love black and red but i think its cause you wear white and your a virgin so i think it just means that the arent lol idk hope this helped

  15. if your gonna be a bride, then i believe you should wear whatever color you choose, whatever makes you feel good, s.. anybody elses opinion, its your big day after all lol.

  16. I think some of that is going by the wayside now. My sister married about two years ago and her dress with white with black piping. It was pretty cool.

Red is a power color, and I don't think most prides want to be one-upped by a the s**y red or black dress. Sad, but I know you guys have watched some of those shows with the crazy brides in them.

  17. In Western civilizations prior to the Victorian era it was acceptable to wear any color but black(the symbol of mourning) and red(the symbol of prostitution)

I believe it became widely popular in Western Civilization in the mid 1800's after Queen Victoria wore a white dress because she wanted to incorporate some lace she owned into the dress. It was later assumed that white was a symbol for a young woman's virginity-although I don't believe this was the original intent. Now it's just understood as the traditional and popular choice for most brides.

In Eastern cultures red(symbolic for luck and auspiciousness) and green(symbolic for fertility) Many brides change multiple times(variety of colors) throughout the ceremony and reception.

It's just a cultural thing and like all cultural things it is once again changing.

  18. Because you are supposed to present yourself to your groom as a spotless bride. White is symbolic of purity. I have heard women say that their future mother in laws have told them not to wear white at their wedding because they weren't a virgin. That is what I call....CONTROLING! I did see a bride where a black dress with white lace at the bottom. It was designed to look like a vitorian era dress. It was actually very pretty.

  19. because traditionally white is the color that virgins were to where to their wedding and for some reason society wants all woman to be "a virgin for a day" when it comes to getting married and black and red are very much anti-white
