The brilliant act of Argentinean Facundo Conte – Volleyball News
The Men’s National Volleyball Squad of Argentina claimed a great win over Italy in the 2011 FIVB World League Final Round match on Wednesday, July 6.
The match was held at Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland, where Argentinean edged out Italy with a score of 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22). Team Argentine opened the Final Round of the tournament on right footing and enjoyed the spotlight.
Argentina’s victory was a result of combined effort of whole team but one player really made a difference. It was none other than 21-Year old Wing-Spiker Facundo Conte, who clipped 26 crucial points for Argentina. He displayed great show of tactful volleyball
and helped his side to stay on top. He was credited for 36 attack attempts during the match against Italy. Facundo Conte is the son of legendary Argentine Volleyball Start, Hugo Conte.
The senior Conte represented Argentina for several years and brought a good name to the country. He represented Argentina in three Summer Olympics and retired from international volleyball some 11 years ago. Following the footsteps of father, his son Facundo
Conte is keeping the great tradition alive. Facundo was inherited with the great passion for Volleyball from his father. As they say, Volleyball was in Hugo’s blood and his son also caught the bug. Facundo has been with Argentinean national volleyball scene
since the age of 14.
He stated, “I played many other sports when I was younger, but then I got involved with the national team and I liked it. My father was still playing and so I wanted to become a player.”
Like his father, Facundo is fairly known for his extra-ordinary qualities. He is quite active on the centre court and makes good use of head in addition to his hands. His father has always been a great source of inspiration for him. He readily admits the
fact that he was encouraged to showcase his skills on the same court as his father.
Mentioning his father, he said, “Like him I play more with my head doing the block outs, I really like the old school way of playing.”
Argentina has a great player in the form of Facundo Conte. They have managed to make a good opening at the Final Round of 2011 FIVB World League. Argentina is scheduled to take on Bulgaria and Poland in the next matches of the round. Team has clear objective
to qualify for the semi-finals and then go for the final showdown. The head coach Javier Weber will be heavily relying on Facundo Conte in next matches.
