The brush status indicator

Question

My Fantom Cyclone XT is now 10 years old. The brush status light goes from green to nothing and/or red and back to green. This happened on and off 6 years ago but had quit until now. It is always clean as as a whistle, nothing clogged anywhere or in the brush. Any ideas where I should go from here? Thanks!
