The brutal F1 cars ready to battle again...
It’s Thursday again... the last day before the cars come face to face. Every fortnight the brutal arenas, one after the other, embrace the mighty cars, marching from one country to the other, in tug of the title. This day of the week always brings anticipation and impatience for the race fans who keep their fingers crossed hoping to see their favourite racers crush their competitors. This Thursday is throat drying and more intense than ones seen in decades. At this time when hundreds and thousands of race lovers around the globe keep waiting for the race to begin, the top five drivers of the season would also be having a restless day and of course a sleepless night.
The next race of the season marking the fifteenth race of 2010 World Championship is set to be showcased at the tricky track of Singapore staring from tomorrow. Friday night will see two practice sessions, followed by the last practice on Saturday night. The purpose of this is to test the cars on the track and make the final amendments according to the surface and conditions.  Moreover, the practises also aim at getting the drivers acquainted with the twists and turns as well as the grip, downforce and other technical aspects of the track.
Saturday’s evening sees the final qualifying, which determines the position of the driver at the grid for the final race day. And then, Sunday brings the final blast, the race event.
Though every race week is filled with excitement and exhilaration, but this week brings more sizzle and spice with it. Firstly, because it is to take place in the festive and fun-filled island of Singapore, secondly because it is the only night-race of Formula One calendar, thirdly and most importantly, because of the shape the points’ tally has taken this year.
The top five drivers of the season stand with only a difference of twenty four points, a difference visible very rarely. Last time such a contention was seen on the track in 1981, when the top five racers separated from each other with just seven points.
Now as the season once again yields the same exhilaration and excitement, the top three teams prepare for one of the most crucial races of the calendar. The top three teams namely, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari stand tall in the Constructors’ Championship with a difference of sixty points. Red Bull has recently claimed back the throne from McLaren, as its driver Lewis Hamilton returned pointless from the last race in Italy. Currently Red Bull has a total of three hundred and fifty points, as its driver Webber banks one hundred and eighty seven, whereas Sebastian Vettel contributes with one hundred and sixty three points.
The British team McLaren follows them with a total of three hundred and forty seven points. Previously the team held the top position, but since Hamilton has retired in two of the last three races and Button in one, the team lost its standing. Now, the twenty six-year-old Hamilton stands at second place with one hundred and eighty two points, while his teammate Button aged thirty, stands at fourth place having a total of one hundred and sixty five points under his belt.
The Italian team, Ferrari has emerged to be another strong competitor in last few races. Both its drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have occupied first and sixth places in the driver’s Championship with one hundred and sixty six, and one hundred and twenty four points respectively. The team currently stands at third place bagging two hundred and ninety points all together.
The battle of cars is ready now; the roaring engines and speeding tyres are prepared to crush down anything that comes in their way. All fingers crossed, as action and drama unfold this weekend at the Marina Bay street Circuit.
