The bus from Rome to Naples or Sorrento and maybe the return?

I have heard you can take a bus and it takes about 4 hours. Anyone have any info or hints.

A Eurostar train from Rome to Naples only takes less than 2 hours. Even the slow trains take just over 3 hours. Is there a particular reason to take a bus? Trains are a usually a lot more comfortable.

I agree too. The best way to go to Naples from Rome is surely the train. There is also a flight connection between the Leonardo da Vinci (Rome) airport and Capodichino airport (Naples). It takes 15 min flight, but I would take it only as connecting flight.

I add a link. It tells you how go from Naples to Sorrento. The (poor) Neapolitan citizen would take the Circumvesuviana. It is a train, a kind of underground line. It is very cheap, unpleasant and dangerous as an underground. The rich people usually goes there by car. The tourists takes a bus from the Capodichino airport (currieri - see link).

If you do not want go to Capodichino and you don't have a car, then you could go there by ship (Metro del Mare - see links) It takes more time, but it very romantic and then you can see beatiful places, you would never see going there by bus or by train.

I agree with the other answer that the train is a better option. If you're going to Sorrento, you'll need to change to a Circumvesuviana train in Naples. They're in another part of the same station in which you arrive from Rome.

However, to answer the question you asked, there is a direct bus from Rome to Sorrento. It leaves from Roma Tiburtina station at 3 pm and arrives in Sorrento at 6:45 pm Monday - Saturday. On Friday, Saturday & Sunday, there's a bus from Tiburtina at 7 am that arrives in Sorrento at 11:10 am. There are also sightseeing day tours via bus from Rome, but they'll be relatively expensive.
