The cat that has started living under my tree please help?

I think it must be a stray cat, she/he wont let me approach it but today he took a piece of chicken from me. What shall I do? It's raining outside and cold.

If you want to keep and or take care of him then place a little dog house out there with a little food in it, that will give him shelter.  Other than that just keep talking nicely to him and offering him treats.  It will take a while but he will warm up to you.  If you really don't want to bring him into your life then I would call the humane society maybe and let them know there is a stray.

How nice of you to care for an animal that is obviously in distress and away from home.

If it is raining and cold, you may want to coax him into the inside by placing the food close to the door if you can leave it open (and not get cold yourself), if you do so the cat will probably understand the invitation.  

Remember, if you invite him or her in you will have to have a litter box very close for obvious reasons, but cats know exactly what they are if the can see it.

Dont try to pet the animal.  Let it out if wants to go out.  If it wants to come back in, you will get all kinds of messages to that affect.

Keep in mind that the animal will be looking for food from you and will stay around to get it.

That is a lot to think about.  Sorry.  However, I do think it is great that you care, you just may or may not have yourself a cat.   The cat wont stay if it does not want to.  No matter what you do.

Or try to place some sort of makeshift shelter outside. Once the cat does start to trust you, PLEASE take it to the vet for possible flea treatment, shots and worms. It will be well worth the small expense to keep it healthy.
