The cd-roms @ new dvd rom with the red cable makes...

Question

When i plug in a drive the cpu boots then my icons are missing and the pc just stays that way no change but if i only have the hdd conected then it works fine no problem what can i do to solve this minor little problem?
The DVD drive has a red narrow cable the new tipe that all the fancy computers use. I have reseted the bios to see if that would help but there was absolutly no change what so ever. Please help? Adriaan 078 156 8095
The computer was also checked by a technicion but not even they could a answer out of it.
