The celebrations continue: Boston Bruins roll in city-wide parade with the Stanley Cup –NHL Updates
After 39 years, the citizens of Boston had a reason to celebrate their fifth Stanley Cup after such a long time and they were not about to let this moment go out of hand.
Fans crowded the streets alongside Boston Bruins who raised the Stanley Cup high in the air, in one of biggest celebrations of the year that started on Thursday and continued till Saturday.
Thousands of fans crowded the area which was a closed three mile route from Bruins’ home stadium, the TD Garden, to the Copley Plaza.
"More overwhelming than I expected", veteran forward, Shawn Thornton, said about the rush on the streets. "Unbelievable turnout. I didn't know that many people lived in Boston, let alone be on the streets today. It was an awesome, awesome experience".
It was a sea of gold and black as all the fans came out dressed and ready for the occasion. Gold glitter could be seen showering the attendants, while the fans’ roars and music playing in all different corners could be heard and boosted everyone’s energy.
The city of Boston has become accustomed to such parades and never misses out on an opportunity.
This was the seventh time fans have taken to the streets in the past decade. All other teams have had their celebrations, including Boston Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox, all celebrated their championships and only Bruins was left.
"The whole city, it seems like it was shut down and everybody (was) on the streets", Bruins’ Tomas Kaberle said. "It seems like all the people had a lot of fun and that is what it's all about. You play for the fans and it took 39 years for Boston to do it.
It seems like it was the right moment".
Unlike a violent riot which has taken over Vancouver’s streets because of Canucks losing in a disappointing Game 7, Boston is full of joy.
Boston was joyful and everyone was happy and celebrating Bruins’ victory. Only nine out of the thousands were arrested due to misconduct which was overall a blessing for the city that had been so tense less than a week ago.
