Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso states that Spain should not have to play qualifying matches in order to participate in the next FIFA World Cup.

Alonso was part of the Spanish team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2010, however, he finds it wrong that his country has to go through qualifying rounds for the finals in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 in 2014.
Before the 2006 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, defending champions would get automatic admittance in the competition.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045 states, “Logically, as in many competitions and sports, the champion has the right to defend their title. I think it is sufficiently important and fair that the winner have the right to qualify.”
What Alonso has to say does make sense, would the champions really be defending their title if they had to go through qualifying rounds again? It seems as though the Real Madrid star is on the right track. However, why should the defending champions get
to forgo the tedious trial of qualifying rounds? Should the World Champions not already be able to easily defeat any qualifying round teams?
Spain will have their first title defending match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Saudi-Arabia-c3000 in Pontevedra this Friday.
La Barba Roja has stated that the Spaniards are eager to add some more glory to their cabinet. By winning the Euro 2008 and the Euro 2012, and squeezing in the World Cup in between, the Spanish side is definitely going to be the side to beat.
“I think many of us are in a fortunate position where we are part of a group that has made history, but we are aware of the future that lies ahead.”
“We want to win more trophies. When the time comes when we stop winning we will face up to it in the best possible way.”
The Spanish football player was a member of all the Spanish squads that participated and won their three most recent trophies.
One can either see Alonso’s statement as that of a player that does not want to go through the task of qualifying rounds, or as a player who feels that when a team wins such a prestigious trophy, they don’t need to prove themselves capable of defending it.
Either way, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 still have to go through the qualifying matches. However, it is more likely than not that they will be there at the World Cup finals.
