I intend to start to work in Sydney next month, I don't have a lot of money but I want to live as near to the city as possible. Could you suggest some places? It will be good if the price is as close to $100 as possible. Sharing is ok, a flat is better but if I can not afford that's ok. Please offer me advices.

Thanks!

  1. $100...sorry...you most likely cant.

  2. it is really hard to find just a room nr the city for $100 a week.

i know my mums friend who lives in the loungeroom in the citycbd ... she's haring accom and pays $100 a week rent to live/sleep in the loungeroom.

its really hrd to find it. most people even to rent out 1 room in a 3 bedroom place nr the city is roughly about $150.

i live in a new apartment 2 bedroom.. and iam sharing with someone and im 25 mins drive from the csydney cbd and my housemate and i are paying $170 each to share.

www.domain.com.au as well as www.realestate.com.au both have people who advertise that are looking for people to share with.

btw redfern or kings cross is the cheapest place u can find in thats nr the city... but a warning... it isnt the best place to live as there are more drugs in those areas than anywhere else in sydney.

i did a search in domain.com.au for u and here are the results.

  3. I dont want to put a dampner on you quest ..but with todays  real estate market..you will be having a hard time to get a flat even out of sydney for $100..you might be lucky and get a room to share closer to  the city some times perserverce pays off keep looking in the share accomodation in all news papaers and the local papers..if you share they proably want 4 to 6 weeks up front .you chose the hardest time to come to saydney but hey you might get lucky..good luck..

  4. Have you looked under the Share section on www.realestate.com.au ?

I did a quick look and found about 6 share places for under $100pw in Sydney.  Not many for such as large City, but worth trying.

  5. i think that your best bet would be to try and get a room in a share house in Randwick or a suburb nearby - it is the eastern suburbs so (supposedly) not as dodgy as other areas in Sydney, and it is close to the city. I live close by to there and work in the city and it is a 15 minute bus trip on the express bus. As well, as it is around a university there are lots of sharehouses around with rooms that you would be able to rent. everywhere I walk there are heaps of signs advertising rooms in sharehouses. I think that you should be able to get a fairly decent room in a sharehouse for around $100 a week, maybe a bit more. You wont get a flat though - I live in a 1 bedroom flat and it is $450 a week.

The University which I am talking about is University of New South Wales.

  6. check out gumtree.com.au

  7. Maybe try Zetland. It's near Alexandria.

  8. Finding somewhere cheap to live in Sydney with your  requirements is like trying to  find a virgin  at a Catholic Girls School. Good luck.

  9. Redfern it's called. It's an inner city area which has been heavily stereotyped for many years by people saying the people there from a certain group do these kind of stuff. It's an alright place I guess but I won't hang around outside at night. It's just on the city's doorstep with trains departing for it every 15 minutes on weekdays - walking there is even possible.

My area (Canterbury/Bankstown) is cheap. However, with the cheaper prices, safety isn't the best thing here. The highest crime levels in Sydney are here in this area but Sydney in general is safe compared to elsewhere - the crime levels aren't near as high as other places. Don't take this fact for the whole suburbs but to certain streets, etc.

My area is between 15-20kms south west of the CBD. The inner City would be Canterbury which consists of places such as: Campsie, Belmore, Belfield, Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl, Roselands, Earlwood, Kingsgrove and Canterbury itself.

The suburbs west of the City of Canterbury would be the Bankstown City suburbs such as: Greenarce, Punchbowl, Chullora, Yagoona, and Bankstown itself.

I hope this has helped and I wish you all the bestn in Sydney! :)
