monkerhostin finished 4th last year. he ran a great race trying to give over the creek 20LBS, and got beat 2 lengths at cheltenham in december. he has been given a gentle preperation by his trainer and the gold cup is his main objective this year, with a possible tilt at the national if all goes well. will he beat kauto star or denman?? time will tell...but, he is running on his fav course, shud hav goodish ground, will be fit, he will hav 1 of the best jocks around on his back, and he will be running on late in the race...all in all he MUST hav a great each way chance of making the frame..YET, he is priced at 100/1. i strongly suggest you all hav a small each way bet at 100/1..AND..the tote are offering betting without kauto star, denman and exotic dancer in the race, and they are offering 25/1 for monkerhostin...which means he cud finish 4th, 5th or 6th and u wud still get paid out, if u backed him each way at 25/1..but please dont miss the 100/1 available..good luck to u all

  1. yes i think it is a 2 horse race although exotic dancer did get within a length of kauto star earlier in the season. but i cant agree with you about monkerhostin totally outclassed and over the hill hence the 100/1 price

  2. although a the cheltenham gold cup is never a 2 horse race this year it will come close to being one. i really cant see ne other horses going past denman or kauto star. if i had 2 pick one i will go against everyone else and say denman just feel the course and distance will suit him

  3. without the "front 3 "you'll find monkerhostin@25/1 is win only.i'm looking 4 a horse called ABRIGANTE,he's out of form but if he goes to cheltenham he'll be placed at worse!he could be in any race but the price will be good!i can't see kauto star getting round.

  4. kauto star is the best since arkle.  forget looking for outsiders & have a good bet on the star.

if you want a decent outsider for the festival then blythe knight in the champion hurdle is worth a 2nd look.

  5. i think its between the the two big guns although i think its more of a gamble on kauto as he is very temperamental

  6. Take that 25-1 without Kauto star Denman, and Exotic dancer, that price will not be there for long. Also Exotic dancer is a good each way bet at 12-1 but I am sure the winner will be one of the other two, my choice will be Kauto. That is a good question

  7. Have followed Monkerhostin's career closely and you do make several valid points, I feel the horse suffered some sort of 'burnout' couple of years ago when connections were chasing the points for that 'horse of the year' thingy, it seemed the Monk was running every 2nd Saturday for about 5months!

Although alot more lightly raced of late, he is what? an 11 year old now? Perhaps past his best so I feel actually winning the GC is beyond him but as you say, if he jumps round safely and is in the mood then a place is well within him.
