my ortho office just cashed the cheque, i used up alot of money that day and was forgot to desposit another amount and now leave -$83 dollar. Should i:

- contact the ortho office and pay the remaining 83 dollar directly, then pay the nsf fund

- deposit the 83 dollar, pay the nfs fee at the bank and let the cheque clear itself

  1. Call the ortho's office immediately and tell them what has happened.  You should also offer (before they demand) to pay the fee that they were charged by their bank, or inquire about the cheque return fee that they charge clients.

  2. If you have had a long relationship with your bank, ( a few years ) they might waive the NSF fees if you ask them nicely.

Some banks, like Washington Mutual, do allow one NSF fee waiver a year.

Best option would be to clear the debt with the ortho folks, then get your bank to cancel the entire transaction, and waive your NSF fees.

  3. ~~You need to first get the money in your checking account to cover the check and NSF charges. Then contact the Ortho office. Tell them exactly what happened and ask them if they can just put the check through again. Sometimes they will, sometimes their policy is to only collect cash or a cashier's check. Either way, you'll have the money in there to cover whatever you they want you to do.~~
