The chief selector urges http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 to decide about his future in the 50-overs format – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980, the former Test cricketer and chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has urged the former captain, Younis Khan, to take a decision regarding his future in the 50-overs format. He also made it clear that the senior players will have
to start performing if they want to retain their places in the team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 lost the recently concluded One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka by one game to three. Their batsmen miserably failed to deliver the goods for most part of the five matches and Younis was no exception as he managed to score only
10 runs in the three innings, which is not acceptable from a player of his calibre.
The cricketer from Mardan has been a great servant of the nation in Test cricket and is considered among the modern-greats. However, his performances in the shorter formats have never been consistently world-class.
The 34-year-old is averaging merely 32.18 after 245 ODIs, which is quite contradictory to his Test average of 52.44. This makes most of the former players believe that it is about time that the right-hander restricts himself to the longer version of the
game and gives opportunities to the younger lot of batsmen.
Talking to Pakpassion, the former left-arm spinner expressed that Younis is a senior player and he himself should decide about his fate, rather than forcing the selectors to drop him from the 50-overs format.
Qasim feels, “There are some decisions that an individual has to make himself. Younis has of course already requested not to be selected in T20s. I don’t know what he has in mind regarding 50 over cricket. Let the tour of Sri Lanka finish and then we will
definitely discuss his future plans with him.”
The chief selector understands that there is no substitute to experience in international cricket but a player must translate that into performances.
“Experience is an invaluable commodity in cricket but you have to be out in the middle performing which unfortunately Younis has not been doing in 50 over cricket of late,” he added.
Younis will get an opportunity to revive his confidence in the upcoming Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, which is going to commence from Friday.
