  1. Being a geologist, I would say it is geology.  It is probable that the City was put on a depositional basin that tends to build up sediments and sink over time.  By controlling the dams, they reduce the sediments but the sinking goes on.  In addition, pulling groundwater from the subsurface often leads to the some subsidence as well.  Regards

  2. more like sociology, you can draw more links towards it, like how the increased sea level would affect industry or jobs or many other social aspects of life- will Manila become a new Venice?

Anthropology can be done, but its too general of a topic... unless you want to argue how human beings were the ones who caused the global sea levels to rise... (which is false, the sun is gettin' warmer, did you know that the ice caps of Mars is getting smaller? I don't see any aliens driving any internal combustion vehicles over there... maybe you can argue how we all tend to string natures natural occurences by our actions, because we view ourselves as a powerful species- thats called anthropocentered... I think :P)

    I hope this is helpful...

  3. Geography

  4. Neither both, but more related to sociology. But the best field for that is some kind of civil engineering.

  5. If the city of Manila has been found to be sinking 1/2 inch every year as related to sea level (or alternatively that the local change in sea level is a rise of 1/2 an inch per year) then I would think that would be a problem for geologists and engineers to puzzle through, not sociologists or anthropologists.  However, we might be interested in how the locals are coping, how any efforts to preserve the cityspace affect the local population, or how people who are evacuated or relocated (by choice or forcibly) feel about the change.
