The spots I want to touch up are only about 6-8 inches on the trunk and hood. I would really like to avoid the paint shop, because those are expensive. I have the exact color of my car, so what are the steps I would take to make the white faded parts go back to green. Thanks!!

  1. Well this might not be the best answer but here it is. You can't. Clear coat is a plastic coating sprayed over the paint. If you spray paint on to the clear coat, it will not stick.  What you are seeing is the clear coat coming off.

The only way to fix it is have the clear coat removed then re sprayed.

The white you see is the coating no longer sticking to the under paint

  2. try using a buffer and a 3 step compound first as long as the paint is not peeling, you might have too wet sand area first with 600 grit sand paper and then buff. wax on wax off.

  3. check out expertvillege.com they have videos on car painting from preparing the surface to the rest good luck

  4. The easiest way is to remove the hood and trunk.Get some 320 grit sand paper with a Dual action sander ( DA sander) sand the entire hood and trunk. Wash them off with soap and water let dry then go over it with a wax and grease remover.Spray two coats of primer/sealer.wait 15 minutes between coats. Then wait 30 minutes after spraying two coats primer.Wipe down the area with a tack rag and repeat this process after every coat of color after the 15 minute wait period. Then three coats of color and then two coats of clear wait 15 min. between each coat and 30 min between color and clear. This is the VERY short version of this process. If you are spraying a metallic color spray a mist coat over your entire painted area after every coat of color for uniformity of the metalics.

  5. clear-coat is just that clear.  usually the clear-coat is use on the water based paints . If the paint underneath is faded it is too late to save the paint.

You may be able to lightly buff the color and spray a clear-coat over the area to get by

  6. the guy above me has it right.... sand off the clear and if the paint underneath is not faded or damaged respray the clear over it, it would be as expensive as repainting the whole thing and you might as well do that instead of reparing little sections
