  1. While the famous Mediterranean climate exerts its influence over much of the peninsula, the landmass of Spain and Portugal gives it a continental climate, i.e., extremes of temperature, hot summers and cold winters, with short spring and autumn.

I'm a geographer, and I actually wouldn't say that any of the answers are correct.  Portugal and Spain (for the most part) have what's known as Humid Temperate climates, with a dry season in the summer.  In some parts of Spain, however, it is much more arid.  Furthermore, while the southern coast of Spain has relatively hot summers, Portugal's summers are much cooler.
