  1. Bay - Reddish coat with black mane, tail and points.

Strawberry-roan - Chestnut body colour with white hairs interspersed.

(My daughter has her favourite library book yet again!)

  2. A bay horse has a redish or light brown coat and a black mane tail and points. A roan horse has a coat which is a mix of white hairs and any other solid colour, for example bay roan , the horse has white and brown hairs in its coat and a black mane and tail.

  3. I think that a Bay is light brown with lots of red.

A Roan has lots of white and may look almost gray. .

But it is basically a light brown. .

  4. both brown roan is lighter than a bay

  5. roan is sorta like a reddish brown and bay is like almost the colour of chestnut but with a dark mane and tail.

  6. roan

  7. A bay horse is essentially a black based horse that carries an agouti gene.  This gene limits the black coloring to the "points", which is the mane, tail, lower legs, and sometimes ear tips.  So you have a red body with black points.  A roan is a horse that has a modifying gene that causes varying amounts of white hairs throughout the solid colored body (unless you have a paint roan....then you'd have white coloring body spots as well).  Again, the "points" are solid colored.  For instance, a blue roan horse is a black horse with roaning.  Black head, mane, tail, lower legs....and white hairs throughout the body to give a bluish cast.  Red roans have a red head, mane, tail, lower legs, and white hairs throught the body to give a "pink" appearance.

  8. A roan has some white hairs intermixed with another predominant color (say bay), and will appear lighter than a non-roan horse of that color (a roan bay will be lighter than a non-roan bay).  Also, the roan doesn't get whiter with age (that would be a gray).

A bay is brown with black tips (mane, ears, tail).

  9. A Bay horse is brown with black main, tail, legs and often in the face and ears.. It can have white socks, but there is usually black in the leg before it shades to brown.

A Roan is usually a solid colored horse with white hairs coming in throughout the entire coat. A red (or Strawberry) roan is a sorrell or chestnut with the white coming through, while a Blue Roan is a black with the white.

For a good exaple of a bay go to zipschocolatechip.com and for a roan try zipsmrgoodbar.com

  10. A roan horse is a lightish brown, and a bay is slightly darker.

  11. There is a Blue Roan & a Red Roan. A Bay is a brownish red, I think.

  12. A bay horse is a horse with a brown base color and black points (mane, tail, lower legs, tips of ears, muzzle).

A roan is a horse with a base color and other colored hairs throughout the coat.

A color very similar to the bay is Seal Brown, which is just like bay except for the fact that they have some lighter points.
