About that digital transition in February 2009...do all converter boxes require antennas to go along with it? Are there some converter boxes that does not require an antenna?

Also I have cable right now but not sure if I will later on and I know I won't be affected right now but if I continue having cable will I end up losing some channels?

What happens if I get a converter box with my cable? thanks!

  1. About da cable part i think dat if the channels arent HD then they will all wont work, they have to be HD. but if u use The converter box i think all of your channels will work.

Hope dis was part of wat u were looking for.

  2. If you have cable you don't need a converter box.  Unless your cable doens't carry a local station there's no need to get both.  If you go without cable and use a converter in order to get the best reception you will need to use an antenna.

  3. if u got diginal cable then u dont need the converter box but if u dont u need the conveter back

  4. You won't need a converter as long as you are hooked up to cable, the box is for over the airwaves signals picked up by antenna. The signals will be broadcast in a digital signal which most older televisions will not be able to recieve. Antenna is hoojked to box, box is hooked to television, and the digital signal will be converted to analog and you can watch the channels.

Of course, newer digital televisions won't need one and no television hooked to cable will need one..

  5. All of the coupon type converter boxes that you are hearing about require an antenna. There are none that do not require an antenna. In the US, analog and digital over the air broadcasts use the same antennas.

The coupon type converters only work with antenna signals and were designed so that they would not work with any common cable system.

Many cable companies are planing to get rid of their analog cable service. If (more likely when) this happens, you would need to use a cable box (sometimes referred to as a converter box, but it's a different kind) to keep using an old analog only TV.

Some cable companies are slowly removing analog channels from their cable systems, but this has nothing to do with Feb 2009 or over the air TV broadcasts.
