The cost of living in wellington nz?

we are looking to move over and was woundering what the cost of living is like, and what we would have to earn to be comfortable and have a stress free life. can any one help

  1. Average NZ wage is $610 per week.  Wgtn was polled late last year as the highest payer of wages.  Median house price is $328,000 but of course the closer to the City the more expensive.  Market rent also varies depending on what suburb you go to.  Inner Wellington 3 bedroom house - $485, outer suburb (1/2 hour to 45min out) $317 per week. Public transport is really good from the outer suburbs unlike Auckland.  Auckland has the highest cost of living but as you go South in NZ it becomes less.  However Queenstown in the Sth Island is an exception.  But wages are all comparative to housing generally, perhaps except Tauranga which is expensive to buy real estate and the wages are not so good in comparison.  Some cost of living prices in NZ:

  2. i'm a student in a 6 bedroom flat in wellington, and we pay $800 a week rent, thats around $130 each. thats pretty standard for renting in wellington i think.
