The cost of shipping products by train?

Is it cheaper to ship goods by train than by trucks? or airplanes? i need this for a speech tomorrow.

my husband work for one the U.S. largest rail co. rail is much more cheaper if your are transporting a lot of product .

Rail is cheaper by far, especially for bulk commodities like coal, lumber, grain, fertilizer, fuel, etc.

Small shipments are different but railroads offer containerized service with the containers available in different sizes.

Of course not many shippers have rail service to their place of business so there is added cost of local shuttle or delivery service.

Still, trains are more efficient and cheaper than any other land based transportation.

If your studies are addressing the environment nothing even comes close to rail for clean land based transportaion.

Trains use a fraction of the fuel a truck uses to move freight, and airplanes use far far more than either.
