  1. Let CP of 1 article = x

    16x = SP of 20 articles

    SP of 1 article = 4x/5 =0.8x

    CP>SP

    THEREFORE LOSS

    Loss = CP-SP = x-0.8x = 0.2x

    LOSS% = (CP-SP/CP)*100 = 100*( x- 0.8x / x ) = 100*(0.2x/x) = 20

    Loss( in %) = 20%

  2. its a gain i dont know the % though. sorry D:

  3. c = cost, x = selling price

    16c = 20x

    c = 1.25x

    % of gain or - loss based on sales:

    = 100%(x - 1.25x)

    = 100%(- 0.25)

    = - 25%

    Answer: 25% is the loss based on sales.

    % of gain or - loss based on cost:

    = 100%([x - 1.25x]/1.25x)

    = 100%(- 0.25/1.25)

    = 100%(- 1/5)

    = - 20%

    Answer: 20% is the loss based on cost.
