  1. At it's most basic forms, life is a bunch of proteins strung together, and proteins are made out of amino acids - which we've seen even in space.  Given enough time - and there's been plenty - it's not impossible.


  2. Google for Abiogenesis. Its a field of science still doing a lot of investigative work to test the various hypotheses but it certainly seems probable based on current knowledge that the first life arose from associations of simple chemicals such as lipids and self-replicating molecules.
