Is it right that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, not content with devising fiendishly complicated murder mysteries, was also a fan of golf?

That's about the size of it. In fact, Doyle was a big sports guy - into boxing, football, rugby, cricket and even skiing, but apparently he really, really loved the golf, playing all over the world, and apparently putting together a makeshift golf course on the grounds of a health spa in Switzerland, while his wife was being treated inside.
