I need to know what year this book is supposed to be taking place... I do NOT need the publication date... :-/ help!

The events occur in 1998. Primarily in Swindon, England.

I just started reading it yesterday! Genius book.

Edit: The month/season is not explicitly stated. The weather suggests autumn/winter.

Edit: Ah ha! I've had a nosey through, and I think it might be summer. At one point Christopher says that in the summer he likes to lie on the grass and look at the stars; and when he runs away from his father and hides in the garden, he wakes up in the morning (which is bright) and the weather's relatively good. At one point he looks at the clouds and identifies three different cloud types - one promising rain.

All this really tells us though is about the weather at particular moments in time, and any idea of month/season is a guess by the reader. In reality it could be any month/season.
