The cusps ?

Question

when i first started studying astrology i was told a cusp is 5 days before or after a change over date in my experience in observing the cusps (5 days before or after) i have found this to be very true i would not describe these people as one or the other sign as i would those born fully into the sign... but i have read many people who disagree with this and some that say it is only the day of my question is in your own experience of observing human behavior which would you believe to be the truth

I'm a cusp : Pisces Aries and my best friends tell me I exhibit traits of both the signs, Aries more though. I think so too, i'm not as quiet and submissive as Pisces are supposed to be but not very aggressive either. so I think Cusps do exist.

The reason why some people born so close to a neighboring sign seem to resemble that sign instead is because they inherit the characteristics of many of their personal planets found there. This is especially so for the personal planets like Mercury, Venus, Mars which are commonly found in a neighboring sign in the charts of many individuals.

On the other hand, there are also people who are born on the cut-off date of a zodiac sign who feel totally at home with its own Sun sign traits rather than the other. Hence, i would suggest that a lot depends on the particular year and date/time of the individual's birth.

Otherwise, the theory of 'cusps' is highly debatable and astrologers have differing views on it. Personally, I feel that its only a technical term but anyone can only belong to ONE Sun sign only. It's just not possible to be in both, no matter how closely to the next sign you were born.

you basically answered the question yourself

you can tell a DEFINATE cusp on the day it switches to another sign, there is no doubt about it

but even with people who are born 5 days aftar or before the switches, there is signs of both of the signs

i.e. 24th of november would be a sagittarius - scorpio cusp too

Ok so, I was born on a cusp myself and I read that "cuspian" ppl exhibit traits of BOTH signs and I believe this to be entirely true. It's hard for me to exactly call myself a scorpio or a sagg because I intensely exhibit personality traits from the two....so idk. I hope that helped.

It's a matter of opinion.  So that means that you can make your opinion whatever you want!  How fun is that? :-)

My opinion is 3 degrees before or after (degrees = a day, more or less).

That is a tricky question because I think of the people I know born either on the cusp or near it and they don't seem to be both as so many people like to point out. I think that the previous signs planets can have an impact on those born so close to another sign. I see a bigger difference in those born in a different month like for instance my father is a March Aries. He was born on the 27th he is more of a dreamer, but he is still very much an Aries in many of his characteristics. He is very different than my friend born in April who is also an Aries.  My friend was born March 19th, which is the cusp, but she is a Pisces through and through there is nothing fiery about her. So I guess in my experience its not that black and white I see more a difference between those born of the same sign but in different months than I do those born on the cusp or within the 5 days.
