  1. yes it will affect your baby, he's a role model for your child, tell him to quit.

    .

  2. No it won't. My dad was a 3 pack a day smoker, and smoked around my sister and I after my mom gave birth to us, and we weren't harmed by it. Both us still turned out healthy. So let him hold his baby, with no worries on your part.

  3. OH MY GOD - I had this EXACT same problem, except with my dad (babys grandad) I was really paranoid about the smoke, he smoked in a seperate room but I heard this isnt good enough because smoke can travel through the house, so after persuading he started to smoke with the door open but STILL smoke can remain in the house. My baby had some wheezing awhile after, took her to the Drs who asked straight away "Does anyone smoke in the house?" It was the smoking that caused it apparently

Now he smokes outside but washes his hands or waits for a few hours before holding her......I believe this is less dangerous but for a 7 week old baby they can still inhale the toxic fumes so basiclaly yeah it is dangerous but up to you how you go about it. good luck!

  4. you should ask him to change shirts , like maybe have a few smoking shirts ! Change shirt, Wash hands and brush teeth or put gum in is my rules with a smoker ..  Baby will stink otherwise :)

  5. The toxins from the smoke will linger well after the smell has gone. Have him change his shirt to a clean one at least. Read the link below for all the toxins in cigarettes- they can do so much damage to a newborn.

Personally, I would make him quit by making it such a pain in the butt for him to be a smoker, but we ex smokers tend to be the harshest.

  6. Medically it is still dangerous to babys health. The materical of your husbands clothing absorbs the odor and the toxins created by smoking. Second hand smoke is considered more dangerous then actually smoking after a prolonged time of exposure because when you exhale it is all the toxins your body rejects.

I assume your husband holds the baby close too him hence close to his clothes.

Your peditrican will recommend fresh clothes and clean hands before holding the baby but I would even go as far as a SHOWER.

Long term health risks include: asthama, poor lung development, delayed development and of course cancer.

  7. make him change his clothes b4 he holds the baby bc that could make the baby sick

  8. My husband smoked when our daughter was born. When he came inside from smoking and wanted to hold her, he changed his shirt, brushed his teeth, and washed his hands. I wouldn't have had any other way. I don't have any "proof" or "facts" to say that it would be harmful for you 7 week old baby to smell it, but I wouldn't take any chances. She's just a baby, she shouldn't even have to smell it. Thankfully my husband quit a few months ago.

  9. My father in law smokes and reeks after having one.  I HATE it!  I smoked for 11 years and quit 6 years ago and it drives me insane when he holds my son and kisses him, breathing his stinky breath on him!  I'm pretty blunt about it though, I tell him to go brush his teeth or to use mouthwash.  I don't think just smelling it will really affect them too much (hopefully anyway).  I just thank got it's not normal anymore for parents to smoke at the kitchen table and in the car with infants like when I was a kid.

  10. If this continues, I would be scares for your baby's health. Hopefully she won't get second-hand smoke. Ask your husband why he can't smoke after he holds the baby, or better for all of you, try to get him to quit smoking. I was never a smoker myself, but I heard it's hard. I have a feeling your worries will be gone if your husband stops smoking. Do YOU think HE'S the problem? I think he is, and I think YOU think he is. Best wishes

    XOXO

  11. well if you still smell his clothes maybe he would need to change the clothes before hold her it's best!

  12. NO WAY THAT IT CAN MAKE THE BABY SICK. JUST WASH YOUR HANDS- MAYBE CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES OR PUT A BLANKET/RAG OVER YOUR SHIRT- OR- GET A SMOKING JACKET LIKE HEF. NO HARM IS GOING TO COME TO YOUR BABY- ESP IF HE SMOKES OUTSIDE.
