I thought this was hilarious. No one actually believed anything in the Day After Tomorrow (I hope) but there was always the "well, it could happen" people. well, say that no more.

  1. ha this goes along with al gores thing he created ,i wouldn't dare believe it , its called a movie. however the day after tommorow was 100 times better and gores  ignorance  put me to sleep

  2. takes a little longer than that i think

  3. I'm ashamed to say I rented that movie. It was hilarious.  I didn't know I was renting a comedy, but we laughed most of the way through the whole thing.

I would've thought no one was stupid enough to believe it could really happen since it was so scientifically inaccurate, but that was before I read what "۷Í®gO" said about it.

That's what happens when they no longer teach science in high school.

  4. "Day After Tomorrow " is complete fiction.  Will not/cannot happen.  It is Hollyweird at its worst. It has no basis in science.

Global warming on the other hand (a 2-3 degree C raise in temperature due in part to human activity) IS occurring and will inducing global climate change (shifting rainfall patterns, earlier springs, warmer poles, more heat emergencies, increasing rate of sea level rise) that can disrupt our economy and ecosystems (make crops and forest harder to grow, strain water supply, increase number of wildfires and floods, expand/shift disease vector ranges) is not fiction.  These events can happen as a result of AGW and have various probabilities of occurring.  See the IPCC reports for details.

Also see the National Academy of Sciences for a short summary that is easy to understand.

  5. seriously when i first saw that movie, i was so scared, because everyone i mean EVERYONE knows its gonna happen, but the thing they dont think is, it's going to affect them some ways, like their children or grandchidren could be affected from the stupid mistakes we do now!!

  6. Randal E.  Dood.  Independance Day came out BEFORE 9/11 happened.  Of course the two towers would be in that picture.  Duh.

For the question:  Yeah, the Day after tomorrow has been proven to be purely fictional for a while now.  Though it is comforting to see it there.  =D  The movie itself was entertaining, just not something people should believe can happen tomorrow.

  7. Scroll back on the photo list to the Independence Day photo - you'll notice two towers in lower Manhattan that aren't there anymore.

Makes your blood boil, doesn't it?

  8. I thought it was an Environmentalist recruitment film.

The only good thing I can think of is what SouthPark did with it - "Two days before the day after tomorrow"

  9. Hun, It`s a movie.

  10. I saw this scientific errors in movies feature earlier on yahoo and loved it.  Notice that most of the ones with outrageous errors are environmental doomsday movies.  Too bad they didn't include that great work of fiction "An Inconvenient Truth"!

Unfortunately, these doomsday movies do scare people who are scientifically undereducated.

I was a bit disappointed that "The Matrix" was included in the scientific errors list, but there's my bias showing!

  11. Global warming popped the front tire on my bike when I was out hitting the trails the other day.

    Man, that thing is everywhere.
