The death of a snooker legend; Alex Higgins
 

The world of snooker fades a little with the death of all time snooker legend Alex Higgins. His personality and charisma will always be remembered by the people who have followed him and by the people who have seen him playing his game with passion and love of snooker.
Alex Higgins died on Saturday, 24th of July, at the age of 61. Higgins was also known as Hurricane Higgins because of the speed of his game and the style of class he showed. The style he delivered was unconventional but his dedication and slickness makes him a legend of all times.
Hurricane Higgins was considered to be one of the best players Great Britain has ever produced. The legend from Belfast was found dead in his apartment and his death was confirmed later by his friends and family in July. His style of playing snooker will always be an inspiration to the people of the world. He was one of the players who introduced snooker at a higher level and filled the game of snooker with charisma, passion and fame.
Despite of his controversial personality Alex remained a loved person for his fans and by the British people. The former world champion of snooker was addicted to alcohol and was accused of heavily using cocaine and marijuana. This was probably the reason that led him suffer the fatal disease of throat cancer which was diagnosed in 1998.
Alex who started playing snooker at the age of 11 carries the credit of promoting the game of snooker to a wider level. He faced all the twists and trails, fatal ups and downs of life during his time. From accusations of assaulting a 14 year old boy to the sexual scandals that gave him the publicity and image of a bad boy and proved his unpredictable career and profile.  People appreciated him as he had achieved something which has never been achieved by anyone before.
The incident of helping a young fan in 1983 showed his softer image to the world when he recorded a tape wishing a young boy suffering from com. When Alex wished him best wishes and visited him in the hospital it was a proof of Alex’s tenderness and caring character.
His failed marriage life and loneliness was probably the reason that made him suffer sheer disappointed with life and happiness. The winner of 24 major titles of snooker was not only a shining snooker star but was also a shining student as well. His practice and passionate love for his game made him a glorious star. 
A decision of participating in the Northern Ireland amateur snooker championship in 1968 set his path to the victories and glorious achievements. The Northern Ireland Amateur Championship provided him the platform from where he entered into the world of glory and glooms. By defeating John Spencer in a magnificent competition in the world snooker championship in 1972, Alex clutched the crown of being the youngest ever snooker world champion.
Later he was labelled as the champion of the people as his fame was entirely different and he played his game for his audience.
When Cancer was diagnosed to him he battled hard with the fatal disease and with the support of his fans and friends he continued his fight, played exhibition matches and some professional contests. Players like him are remembered in the best moments of life. His achievements and efforts for his game can never be ignored. Alex the Hurricane Higgins is a star that will always shine on the planet of snooker and his followers will continue his legacy till their end. Alex the Hurricane will always remain a matchless sportsman.
