  1. Similarities: Going against odds that far outweigh them, succeeding based as much on wit as bravery. The struggles they have to overcome are usually fantastical in Nature, beit from a mystic source (the Greeks) or scientific (Modern).

Differences: The Greek heroes were usually male, and often BORN into greatness (the son of a God or king). The also usually CHOSE their adventures. Modern heroes are often "commoners" in origin, driven to heroics by circumstance.

  2. Heroes in any age, somehow have the ability to win, against all odds!

  3. many of the ancient greek heroes were either children of the gods or had the gods help in many of their situations.

  4. Our modern day heroes are supposed to be humble and often try to keep their heroics anonymous.  The Ancient Greek heroes weren't virtuous unless they could brag about their deeds before taking to the battle field, they had to be good talkers as well as good fighters.
