The departure of Jimmy O’ Regan, PDC pays homage
Regarded as one of the best sportsman of the country, darts champion and player Jimmy O’ Regan was paid homage to after he passed away a week ago.
The Irish sports player was regarded as a regular competitor of darts and a regular player from the PDC circuit of darts organisation.
He has always been regarded as a diehard fan of darts and this can be vindicated from the fact that he dedicated his life for the development of darts and the sport on the whole.
According to PDC Tournament Director Tommy Cox, "I've known Jimmy for over 30 years and he was a real darts person".
He narrated, "Even in his later years, the main passion in his life was darts. So much so that one weekend he travelled to Wigan on the train to play on Saturday, travelled home afterwards and then repeated the journey on Sunday".
He further said that his passion for darts was unprecedented and is completely beyond the ways other players today understand the meaning of compassion and dedication towards what they do.
"He was a veteran County darts player and he loved the sport with a passion which lasted throughout his life".
It is interesting to mention here that, even in the last few weeks of his life, he was participating in the different events of darts. His last appearance was at the Qualifying School in January.
This was later supposed to be followed by his presence at the UK Open Qualifiers. The event was scheduled to take place at Crawley.
However, before the start of the qualifying session Regan began to show signs and symptoms of illness and his condition began to deteriorate and he decided to marginalise himself from the event.
Few would have thought that this was the last time he was participating in a major darts event. "We will miss him, he was one of the real characters of darts, and everybody knew him".
With the departure of Jimmy from the arena of darts, a glorious era of darts and a remarkable player has left the oche.
It is important that his legacy is pursued in the most effective way in times to come.
