Question:

The deraileur of my mountain bicycle is bent?

OK so I ordered a bicycle from Sports Chalet online website, and the order arrived yesterday. The parts were all seperated, and I had no idea how to assemble it, so I went to a Sports Chalet store nearby and ask them to get it assembled.

Today, the guy there called and the deraileur of the bicycle was bent... what can be done about this?

  1. You bought it from them they should take care of it. If it was bent during shipping the shipper should take care of it.

  2. Sue the b******s! If it doesn't look like the best ---check the derrailleurs at www.blueskycycling.com or www.pricepoint.com for bargains!

  3. It is most likely the derailleur hanger (little metal part on frame) this can be straightened or replaced by a bike shop. Get it put together or looked at by a bike shop rather than a sports chalet as unless your lucky to score a good mechanic, the sports chalet assemblers will be c**p.

  4. You can either buy another derailleur or you can take it too another shop and get a second opinion. It might be that your derailleur hanger is bent not the derailleur itself. That is an easy fix with the right tools at a bike shop. Before shelling out more money get a second opinion, or at least get the guy to show you where it is bent and have him explain what he says your options are.
