  1. trick question...its both. Its considered a voluntary muscle because we can force ourselves to breathe when we want to, and we can completely control our breathing if we need to. However, it is impossible to suffocate yourself by holding your breath because as soon as you pass out, you will begin to breathe again.

    Technically, i believe it is considered a voluntary muscle.


  2. yes, you can always tell voluntary if you can control it.  Hold your breath.  See you just controlled it!!
