Would very much like to know how much it cost every Briton to belong to this club of has been, surplus fat cat politicians, not only the percentage taxes to pay for the dubious privilege, but also the cost of complying with their almost weekly directives that ALWAys cost us plenty, for no returns at all, the bulk of our trade is NOT with the EU

  1. By 2007 the combined direct and indirect costs of EU membership will cost Britain close to £100,000 per minute.

Since Britain joined the ‘European Economic Community’ in 1973, Parliamentarians have time and again called for a cost-benefit analysis to prove or disprove the benefits of membership; successive Conservative and Labour governments have consistently refused on the grounds that the benefits are ‘self-evident’.

Britain has given nearly £200 Billion to the EU since we joined. In 2007 UK taxpayers will be forced to pay £14.2 Billion to the EU.!!The EU costs every man, woman and child £873 per year.

The EU is cost the British economy £50.6 Billion in 2006, by 2007 it has risen to £52.4 Billion.

  2. I also think the EEc stinks. Is it a coincidence that we here of more corruption in the UK since we joined than we ever did before? Or is it just that we have caught up with the blighters

  3. I agree - don't let the current bought of anti-Americanism lead to your economic downfall.

  4. What about the advantages? If there is no advantage at all why is this "great nation'' losing so much money there?

Do you think UK can stand alone against countries like China, India and Brazil together?

If you say yes, wake up and stop dreaming. The time when Elizabeth the First was ruling the world is gone forever. Nowadays you cannot do all by yourself...

  5. The main reason for the EU is to benefit big business. Anything even likely to benefit the ordinary man/woman in the street has been continuously vetoed by succesive Governments.

    Examples are:

    Working hours

    Retirement age

    Income tax

    Tax on alchohol

Tax on (dare I say it) tobacco products

Thats why it costs a lot for no return.

  6. Karen has provided a good answer. The only areas I could disagree on would be when  I helped in the last EU elections in 2004 the cost to the UK as advised by Civitas (an independent organisation) was that the UK had paid in £300 billion since joining. There are all sorts of arguments about net contributions, these are largely irrelevant because what is being said is that UK taxpayers money is being creamed off before some of it is returned to certain areas. It should be noted that outside of Wales and Scotland most of the status 1 areas are represented by Labour politicians (you can read that two ways).

The other information I would add is that you also contribute through your council tax (yes council tax). In England we have 7 regional assemblies these are paid for by the local councills and metroploitan areas they 'represent'. The North east voted 'no' to a regional assembly but it is still there, it has not been dismantled. They collect money and use some to 'fund' local initiatives and send some to brussels.

It is the same system, they create a 'money circle' recycle some to claim publicity, have a chief executive and othe rhighly paid 'staff' and cream some off for Brussels.

All the things they do with our money we could for ourselves at 10% of the current cost.

Interestingly the inland revenue is engaged in trying to stop criminals who create 'money circles' to avoid paying VAT by 'trading' it is the essentailly the same idea.

Gordon Brown forced councils take down the signs that said 'EU funded project' so that you would be less aware of how much of your own money was being mismanaged and stolen.

It has been estimated that withdrawl from the EU could provide every pensioner with a 10% increase and every UK taxpayer with 2p off income Tax and we would still be able to double foreign aid to the poorest countries in the world.
