Question:

The difference between .AVI and .MPEG formats?

I've been uploading a lot of my older digital videos to my PC and just realized that I didn't always upload them in .avi format, which I assume is the highest quality (right?). but the main reason I'm doing this is because I'm eventually going to burn them all onto a DVD. doesn't the computer automatically convert .avi files to .mpeg when burning them to a DVD anyway? so, does it really matter what format I upload them in if they're just going to end up in .mpeg once I get them onto DVDs? I hate to think that I need to go back and re-upload a lot of them in .avi if it's not going to make a difference.
