I would like to purchase some music from the internet and then copy it onto a disc - which would be best - a CD RW or a DVD RW - my lap top has a DVD drive only but I want the CD to be able to work in discmans and hi-fis. many thanks (I am just so behind with technology...) :)

  1. You need to find out whether or not you have a dvd reader or dvd burner/reader. If it can only read than you will not be able to copy your music onto a disc. I don't know of any discmans that can read DVD's and very few if any can read RW's of any variety. Many can read CD-r's however and these are cheaper as well. Of the two though the only one with the slightest chance of working would be the CD-RW but again not much chance anything will be able to read it. Maybe the hi-fi but not the discman.

  2. You get more on a dvd (yes you can put music on it) but it won't play in your CD player.

It will play in your dvd player, so if you have one connected to surround sound etc then you could do that, but a discman would need a cd.

If doing music on a CD don't use rewritables just use a CD-R , some cd players(older ones) won't play CD-RW's for some reason.

  3. you can burn both film and music files on either format but CDs don't have as much memory as DVDs because the information stored on a DVD is much more compact

  4. CD -RW is 700mb average disc size suitable for storage of small meadia i.e. music

DVD-RW is 4.7 - 9gb of storage which is large suitable for storing non-hd video content such as full length movies...

  5. CD-RW

Because you're not burning a video.

  6. cd-r's are for music and dvd-r's are for movies, you should be able to burn a cd in ur drive and it should work in any cd player but the more cheaper ones sometimes dont work in dvd players

  7. cd is of 700 mb and dvd is of 4.7gb (5500mb) and RW means we can rewrite those cd's and dvd's and if ur laptop has a dvd drive than cd drive will be in s dvd is the above version so every dvd version has cd writer in built

  8. If you want it to work in discmans and portable CD players, go with a CD. DVDs normally won't read in the case of the others! CD-RW (Rewriteable) is fine, but you'd have to finalize the disk and format it so that it can't be re-written on, which would waste your money. The BEST in your situation is a CD-R!

  9. firstly, Walkmans and hi-fi will only read CD AUDIO format (not mp3). A cd drive cannot detect a DVD so you have to use a CD (R or RW) to write cd audio (74-80 minutes worth).

You can store 4.7gb of mp3 music on a dvd-rw and play it back using a computer with a dvd drive, but it wont work in a normal cd player. It may work in some DVD players (if they say they can play mp3).

  10. DVD is for copying films onto. a CD is for music
