Question:

The direction at Wimbledon Championships should impose players leave together the tennis court, shouldn't it?

A BBC commentator mentioned that he missed that. I suppose it was from the beginning of the Championships obligatory, when did it change (recently)? I couldn't agree more to feel the same as the commentator: tennis brings joy, beauty and the conviction that fair play is possible. I miss the ladies' knicks (= the polite knee bending) for the notables. If you see the losing player quickly walking away on his/her own (perhaps with the head down) while the winner is giving autographs, it can give the impression of grudge and that tennis is only a money "thing". The loser shouldn't feel rejected by the winner nor by the public and I guess the public wants to say properly goodbye to players "with good fair play manners".

  1. Yeah, I forget who it was now, but I did notice one losing player disappear quickly after the match.  It seemed a bit rude at the time, but I suppose some losing players don't really wanna hang around while their opponent gets all the applause for winning.

We all do things in the moment that maybe we wished we hadn't done.  We're all human, even Federer!

  2. players should be friendly

  3. Yes. I think it's traditional. Some players have to sign autographs, though.

  4. its just not cricket old boy.

  5. I think that it would be a good idea to do this because it would show respect for each other.

  6. I like this question:

It would be great if the first player to leave waited for the second player to leave, but they haven't made that rule yet sadly!

Usually the winner stays a bit longer to sign autographs for te crowd, but it was a bit different with Venus Williams when she played Naomi Cavaday, because Cavaday had sportsmanship, and she waited, and signed autographs for the crowd!

A player should have alot of sportsmanship, because I hate watching a player make a speedy exit, and then the camera zooms on the winner signing massive tennis balls, and eventually leaving 2 minutes later!

If I lost a match I would be emotional, as in not crying, but being very happy for the other player like Venus Williams! I would properly shake my opponents (the victor) hand, and say congratulations, and good luck, and I enjoyed playing you! I would also sign autographs, clap in around in the centre of the court, and properly say goodbye to the umpire too!

    Good question!

  7. I agree.  Players should enter together and leave together.  Its far more courteous.

  8. i dont think it should be made a rule. this would mean that the players are only waiting for the other because they have to. it is much nicer when (most of the time) they wait for the other player out of sheer respect, not because there is a rule imposed.

  9. Im very sorry but cant agree, the players at the top level such as the fourth round or q finals at Wimbledon are sometimes on court for up to five hours giving one hundred percent. They cant be expected to wait around whilst the winner laps it up,they are tired and most of the time gutted, embarrassed and just want to get out of there. As for the money aspect of your question,of course they are there for the money,as much as they love their sport they couldn't live without prize money, sponsorship money and so on.
