    Seriously, anything that was associated with the nobility or clergy had to be eradicated (or more precisely with the notion of 'Divine Right' and inherent privileges). Addressing people as Monsieur or Madame was forbidden, people were supposed to call each other "citizen" and use the informal "tu" instead of the formal "vous" form for "you".     Anyone that was able to travel abroad in those days had to be from the upper, aristocratic classes so I don't think many European aristocrats were flocking to Paris to watch their peers get guillotined.
