Yahoo! Groups are overrun with spam, Google Groups are better.

Yes you can join.  Groups are like a club, which is what they were once called  for people  with common interests, travel, pets, health. etc. There are usually photos, links,   a message board, and more info.  Contrary to another poster, they don't  always have a lot of spam.  My main group has more than 2,000 members,  16,000 posts and  next to no spam primarily because  first posts are moderated and if someone starts with spam they are banned right from the start.
