The dominican republic, is there any problem with vacationing there with haiti so close by and where is the?

Best area are Punta Cana(good beaches and resorts, golf, casino,relaxing atmosphere), Samana(Isolated a really relaxation place), Puerto Plata (good to have a idea of the Dominican culture, beaches, rest, hotels,golf)

There is no problem vacationing in DR with Haiti so close. The best areas are Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, and samana. These places are big in the hotel/resort industry and they have fabulous beaches!

Hi Born2Run, the best place for your 1st time is Puerto Plata, there you have everything from the best beaches (bigger) the montains, a lot to do outside the hotels, Ocean World, Isabella de Torre (cable car) and the city at 10 min from the resorts. Enjoy it!

Hello, just returned from 2 weeks in Puerto Plata. AMAZING! Many tour operators offer day trips to Haiti , and a huge percent of all the farm workers of the DR are Haitian. There are Haitian villages around. We toured through the province of Monte Christi, (which borders Haiti) we asked similar questions, and were assured there was no threat. So generally no, you dont need to worry about Haiti. There are gov't road checks to keep drugs and illegals out of the DR. All in all it is best to avoid Haiti, but it poses no threat. Like anywhere, dont go out there alone, and avoid anyplace you cant speak the language, especially after dark, try to get a tour guide to take you out into the nightlife, 30 bucks and you've got a local for the night! see the best discos and eat real dominican food!

As for the best place to visit, that depends on your definition. The best price, the good beaches, and ocean world, and the best tours are in Puerto Plata.

Punta Cana has white powder beaches, and generally is more $ it is laid back, much less developed, and has less things to do.

La Romana is similar with even less to do tours wise, but if quiet and R&R is your desire look for places that are not "great for families" etc. are a good bet.

Santo Domingo is a city with 3,000,000 people. So it is busier, more historic and more crowded.

As for nudity on the beach, some places allow, others told people to cover up. so b***s on the beach OK full frontal not appreciated. And please restrain these old gents to board shorts, the banana hammock and g-string bather went out in the 80's

Bring small toys, school supplies, and baby / kids clothing for gifts or gratuity. Just about everything we take for granted here, is greatly appreciated and out of so many peoples finacial ability down there.

Absolutely no problem with Haiti, chances are you won't even be near the border.The North coast, Cabarete, Playa Grande, Samana have great beaches, many women  go topless,  however to the best of my knowledge there is only one clothing optional resort.  see the link below.

Im going to punta cana in march and i asked my travel agent the same question! she said not to worry! I heard Punta Cana has the best beaches, i heard topless too. Punta cana has white sandy beaches that go on and on!

Haiti is another country that borders D.R. and it is not part of D.R. so why would there be a problem?  Some of the people in D. R. have come from Haiti and work in D. R.

If you want a top notch vacation for a lot less money than say like Mexico which is overrated, go to D. R. Everything there is pretty top notch all-inclusive with great food and service and the beaches are pristine and gorgeous with lots of palm trees and the swimming is to die for.  All the beaches are great, north, east and south and if you are looking for topless people, most of that is on the north side of island.
