What are some things that we have here in America that would be hard to live without over there? What is so different? Harder to get a job?

Just everything, how does their culture differ from ours?

  1. the major down fall is the expense of housing, cars, clothes but the upside is free public health insurance. if you have an accident you won't have to pay thousands for surgery.  it's tough in the work department because it has become so competitive but when you do pay and benefits are generally OK (depending on profession) as for what would be  hard to live with out i am not sure we have nearly everything there is not one thing  i can't think of..... living with out hot summers??? but on the plus its cheaper to travel and see Europe on holidays most of us head abroad for summer holidays!!

  2. The major downsides are 1. The cost of living.   2. The weather.

  3. Prices

  4. if you live in a large city in america such as ny, chicago, LA, boston, philly, houston or dallas you will have more choice in terms of things like malls, stores (no target, home depot, walmart, kmart here eg.), cinemas, gyms, schools, different types of churches (catholicism is still by far the strongest religion in the Republic and dominates in terms of places of worship, finding a mormon or evangelical place of worship in rural ireland is nearly impossible), fast food outlets (no wendys, taco bell, jack in the box, popeyes etc here, we do have mcdonalds, burger king, kentucky fried chicken and pizza hut though and loads of Irish fast foods joints)

We have no major theme parks in ireland, so no disney land, universal studios, seaworld, 6 flags etc, we have no giant casino resorts like they have in las vegas, atlantic city or in connecticut

No baseball, NFL, ice-hockey or NBA basketball in Ireland.  We do play a bit of pro basketball here but it would be comparable to high-school basketball in the states, the popular sports in Ireland are football (what americans call soccer), gaelic football, hurling and rugby.

Jobs are better paid in america but you guys work much longer hours.  Finding a job here is probably as easy as finding one in america, our unemployment rates are lower than yours are at about 4%, the american average is about 5.5%, only 9% of the republics population is below the proverty line whereas that figure in the states is close to 14%.

Every car on american roads seems to be a huge SUV, those vehicles are rare here, people stick to smaller cars.  Houses in america are on average twice the size of european homes and that would obviously include Ireland.

in terms of culture; america is a much more consumer driven, capitalist conservative militaristic society.  Ireland is still very socialist and left wing in nature but over the last 15-20 years consumers here have started to copy the spending habits of their american cousins. The government have a finger in nearly every pie, privatisation is still in its infancy in this country
