The downside of the Wii-U Tablet – Video Games Update
Nintendo might have made a huge mistake with the tablet controller for the upcoming Wii-U console or that is what the Crytek Producer believes.
Many gamers are of the view that Nintendo is set to bring another revolution with the tablet controller just like the company did with Motion controls with the original Wii in 2006. Crytek producer, Mike Read, however doesn’t believe this to be the case
this time. Even though he agrees that the touch screen controller is a great innovative idea, he believes that it would be dangerous in the hands of children.
“One thing I really love about the Wii, and I’m not sure Nintendo even realised this when it launched, is that the Wii’s demographic was between the ages of six to 60. I would gladly give a Wii controller to my three-year-old to play that game, but when
I saw the Wii U controller I thought, I’m not sure if I’d give that to my child to play with, that’s an expensive piece of hardware,” said Read in an interview with CVG about his thoughts on the Wii-U tablet and Xbox SmartGlass.
Luckily for Nintendo, the Wii-U is said to be fully Backwards compatible which means that it will also support the original Wii-mote and the Nun-chuck. In addition to them there is also the new ‘Pro’ controller, much similar to that of the Xbox 360, which
many believe, was solely developed after Activision asked Nintendo to bring out a standard controller if they wanted to see Call of Duty games on the Wii-U.
This might lead many gamers to question the amount of support Nintendo has planned for the tablet controller as many analysts are of the view that the tablet controller will just end up becoming a fancy accessory which won’t be used in the majority of the
games. There is also the fact that the tablet controller drains a lot of the Wii-U’s GPU power as the console has to work with two different screens. This means that the games which will utilise the tablet controller will be graphically inferior to those that
use the regular controller.
Gamers will have to wait until the holidays when the Wii-U is released to check the new tablet controller and the console out themselves.
