The dramatic Korean Grand Prix (Part 10)
There were just 8 laps remaining in the race when Red Bull driver retired out of the inaugural grand prix leaving the track pointless. Both Red Bull drivers were now out of the race and it seemed that Red Bull’s championship run was going to be affected
vitally after this race.
Alonso led a comfortable second lead over Hamilton as Sutil got it all wrong and was not able to hit the perfect braking point for Turn 1. He glanced at the side of Kobayashi’s car but failed to attempt his move perfectly.
Adrian Sutil had to retire out of the race due to the damage caused by Kobayashi’s car but Kobayashi was able to continue the race without any visible damage.  The light levels kept decreasing as Alonso pressed in front of the field. Team Ferrari was having
the perfect race as Massa was in the final podium position. Fernando increased his lead and all Alonso had to do now was not make a mistake and just finish the race. Kobayashi held onto his ninth spot ahead of his teammate to secure the final two positions
for his team.
The three leaders approached Heikki Kovalainen’s Lotus and managed to put the Finn a lap behind the leaders. Lewis and Fernando were on worn out intermediates now, but with just 5 laps remaining in the race it seemed that they would be able to finish the
race on these tyres.
Jenson Button was still stuck in 12th place but managed to close the gap between him and Jaime Alguersuari. With just 10 minutes remaining in the race, the light level was decreasing rapidly and there were just 4 laps remaining in the race. Alonso
was leading by 2.8 second now and it seemed that Lewis was not going to catch up anytime soon.
Robert Kubica was on the tail of Nico Hulkenberg’s car and was trying to find his way past him in order to take the sixth place. Fernando Alonso extended his lead by almost another second as the 51st lap passed. Massa was marginally behind Lewis
Hamilton in third place and barely saved his spot as he nearly lost control of his Ferrari.
Nico Hulkenberg ran out of the road and lost control as he slid wide but was able to drag his way to the pits for a fresh set of tyres. As a result, Robert Kubica gained a position and was now in 6th followed by Tonio Liuzzi in 7th
place in the classification.
Alonso continued to stretch his lead and it seemed that Hamilton was happy with his 2nd place and was just trying to finish the race as soon as possible. Barrichello was suffering from some tyre problems while Lewis and Felipe both slowed down
vitally and Alonso led them by 10 seconds with just 2 laps remaining in the dark.
Jaime Alguersuari ran wide giving Nico Hulkenberg a lot of hope for a points finish at the Korean Grand Prix with just 2 laps remaining.
It was getting quite dark as Alonso led the cars comfortably to start the final lap of the 55 lap inaugural Korean Grand Prix. Hamilton was 12.3 seconds behind the race leader with Massa and Schumacher following him in 3rd and 4th places
respectively.
Alonso continued the final lap in the dark as the crowd roared at the top of their lungs with just less than half a lap to go.
Finally, Fernando Alonso crossed the start finish line and the people in the grand stands went wild. Fernando won the inaugural race at the Korean International circuit and stamped his name as the first winner of the Korean Grand Prix.
The Spaniard was very lucky to win this race as he benefitted the most in terms of points with his top 2 championship rivals out of the race. Fernando Alonso became the new championship leader and is currently leading the standings with 231 points followed
by Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel with 220, 210 and 206 points respectively. Jenson Button had a disastrous race with a pointless finish and it seems that he is now out of the championship chase since he is trailing the leader by 42 points.
