The dreams of Big Buck’s and Quevega racing together stay without any brushes of reality
The way the most celebrated pair of the flat racing, the top miler of the world, Frankel (now retired) and the Australian star mare, Black Caviar, could never share the same race track, on the very identical lines, the champion hurdler, Big Buck’s and the
staying mare, Quevega, are also highly unlikely to cross ways. In the prior example, the fact that Frankel was a miler and Black Caviar was a sprinter, did not help the cause of the two racing together.
However, for these two top hurdlers, the only thing coming in the way is the racing destinations which they do not want to switch.
Big Buck’s has come victorious out of the Sportingbet Long Distance Hurdle for a fourth straight time and just as he accomplished that feat, the nine-year-old champion hurdler became the favourite for the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival for a straight
fifth year.
Both the stars have completely distinct and important targets to achieve and for the Willie Mullins trained, her goal will put an end to this season’s racing so the connections are really not up for any compromises or changes in plan.
After winning the Long Distance Hurdle four times, the Paul Nicholls’ trained is now all set for landing the World Hurdle for a fifth time. The brilliant staying mare has the same number to achieve, but in the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle.
Stewart said: "Like Willie has said, I think the only way they would meet is if Big Buck's changed s*x! Ruby (Walsh) obviously rides Big Buck's and Quevega and I just don't think it will happen.
"Quevega is as good a staying mare as I have seen, but I think it's highly unlikely we would go to Punchestown.
"Willie has said Zaidpour could have a crack at Big Buck's after his good win in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse, so we look forward to that. Big Buck's has won 18 races in a row now, certainly none of my other horses have come close to doing that,
and we look forward to going to Ascot.”
According to the champion jockey, Ruby Walsh, his mount in the Sportingbet Long Distance Hurdle did not even need to switch ahead of his second gear. The World Hurdle was the only chance that the two could have collided in as the line-up until now is such
that the match would have highlighted the clash only between the two in their own league stayers.
