The driver’s championship after the Korean GP
Another very exciting and thrilling race of the season unfolded this Sunday at the newly built Korean International Circuit. Just like the entire season, the race unwounded in a very surprising and jaw dropping manner, with a lot of action and drama on the
track.
One after the other laps the race kept changing its shape and by the end of the day the race fans were drained with so much fervour and adventure on the track. It was already understood that this seventeenth round of the season would be immensely nail-biting
not only because it marks the third-last race of the season but also due to the situation of the points’ tally.
The 2010 Formula One season has been very exciting and awe-inspiring right from its start and now as it reaches its end it has become even more thrilling. The year witnessed the top five drivers so closely entangled in the battle for the title that predicting
any name as a winner was simply a too bold a thing to do. Such a close contention is not seen in years.
Now, finally with only two more races to go, the battle has somewhat reduced within four top drivers, Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The chances of Jenson Button are next to impossible after the pointless finish in the
Korean race last Sunday.
The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso bagged the fifth victory of the season at the Korean Grand Prix, which makes him the only driver this season to have earned five race wins. The Italian stood second in the Drivers’ Championship before this race being one
place ahead of the Red Bull driver Vettel as both had 206 points. However, with his 5th conquest of the season Alonso has jumped to the top of the Drivers’ championship having a total of 231 points after the addition of the last 25.
On the other hand, Mark Webber of Red Bull who has occupied the top place in the championship for most part of the year has now been dropped down to second place. The Australian embraced poor fate at the last race as he fell off the slippery wet track of
Korea, taking Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP along with him. Now, he has a total of 220 points, his chances of championship still remain high.
Another man who returned happy from the debut Korean GP is McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton. After a series of races where the driver faced bad luck, finally he has jumped back to the battle for the title. The second place finish at the last race ascended him to
second place from his previous third. With his 210 points, Hamilton now stands 10 points behind Webber and 21 points adrift the charts’ toper. Although the tug is still very tough for him yet the dying hopes of the driver has started breathing once again after
the 18 points of yesterday.
At the 5th place in the tally stands the second Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel. A brilliant race of the driver came to an end after a strong hit of ill-fate as the racer faced engine problem at the 45th lap of the race. The German
showed great form and pace in the qualifying session and was successful in getting the pole position. However, his smooth run for victory was halted badly and he ended pointless dropping to 5th place with same 206 points from his prior third.
The worst weekend was embraced by the other McLaren driver, Jenson Button. A poor qualifying allowed him to start the race sluggishly from 7th place on the grid. The rainy track kept seeing the driver spinning time and again and finally the fight
of last sixteen races came to an end only after the seventeenth race as the title contender ended pointless at 12th place.
