The drivers’ point of view about the Brazilian Grand Prix (Part 2)
The drivers are expected to arrive in Brazil on Wednesday as they have to participate in the Friday Practice sessions.
James Key
BMW Sauber’s technical director is glad to return to the Interlagos racing track in Sao Paulo for the Brazilian grand prix as the venue offers great atmosphere and support. The track contains a lot of overtaking portions and makes the race potentially more
exciting. Team Sauber intends to maximize its points in any way that they can.
“The C29 will be the same specification it has been in previous events, but we obviously have several set-up options to consider. One of these is the downforce level. In Interlagos you either gain on the straights or in the corners of the windy infield section,
so we will have to strike the right compromise,” said James.
He believes that the engineers will have to set up a car that is well balanced in terms of grip and speed. While talking about the mechanical setup of the car, he stated that they will have to make the car reliable and consider the track’s bumpy nature.
For that, the team will have to setup traction control and the front-end grip of the car thoroughly.
Adrian Sutil
Force India driver Adrian Sutil had an amazing experience last year as he qualified in 3rd place but was unable to finish the race. Adrian believes that the Brazilian Grand Prix is always an entertaining experience and is a really special event
for him on the calendar. He loves going to South America as he has some heritage there from his father’s side since the track is in Sao Paulo, the atmosphere is epic every year. The drivers can even hear the cheers of the crowd while driving their cars and
the track itself is quite versatile due to its bumpy nature. It is like a roller coaster ride particularly while driving at the first turn that leads left in the downward direction at high speed.
However, it is not an easy track to drive on and the drivers have to work really hard to preserve their cars until the end of the race. Adrian is hoping for a rainy Brazilian Grand Prix though as he thinks that Interlagos offers a very special and unique
rainy race.

“You need a car that's quick on the straights but also stable through the twisty section at the lower part of the track so getting a good balance is key. Fortunately this year we've got a car that performs well on this type of track as we saw in Spa so I am
very optimistic we can do a good job and get some more points,” said Sutil.
Adrian received a penalty at the Korean Grand Prix that he will take to the Brazilian Grand prix therefore it would not be easy for him to repeat his last year’s qualifying performance. However, Sutil stated that he never gives up and he will go to Brazil
positively despite the penalty he received.
Vinantonio Liuzzi
Vinantonio believes that he had a fantastic race in Korea after the team had to go through a number of difficult races therefore it was great experience for the team. Liuzzi had a great experience after a long time.
“We showed again that when conditions are tough we can be in the game. The team did a great job in the pit stop, deciding the right moment to change the tyres, and the stop was really quick. Everything was perfect and I had a really strong race,” said Liuzzi.
He claims that the team had a perfect race and they did not make any mistakes. He made the right overtaking moves at the right time and everything went down perfectly for the team.
Liuzzi hopes to replicate his performance at the Brazilian grand prix and believes that he would experience the adrenaline even better with the atmosphere the Brazilian crowd offers.
