Question:

The drum in my LG WM2277HW washer does not turn. It is like the motor is locked up. I can rotate it manually

The drum will rotate manually, but as soon as I turn the washer on the drum seems to catch and then will not turn at all. Then the motor just hums. I read this is a DC motor, and that if I could turn the drum the motor is good. What would cause the drum to sieze? Any thoughts or suggestions? I already unplugged it to see if it would reset. That did not work. I have the top off and the rear access panel removed. I am hesitant of disassembling the rotor/motor/drum. I found an exploded view on Sear's website and it looks like a real mess inside there. I would appreciate any tips on how to repair this.

  1. does it have a belt??? Check to see if it's broken

  2. From your description it is not the belt as it wouldn't seize up when you turn it on.  It sounds more like the motor.  Read more here:  http://www.repairclinic.com/0088_8_1.asp...
