The dubious case of Imran Farhat
Imran Farhat’s selection in team remains the most controversial decision on the Tour to England as yet as he has no performances behind him to back him claim in the Pakistan line-up for the first Test against Australia. One would wonder how it all came about and many media reports suggest that his father-in-law Mohammad Ilyas has a lot to do with it as he is currently serving in the national selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Critics have come hard on Imran Farhat for getting favours because of his father-in-law and his position in the board. The left hander has failed to impress at the international arena despite being given a plethora of chances time after time. Farhat has failed to score in the recent past. He may have been impressive in the domestic format of the game but his international career is going nowhere. Farhat was surprisingly picked up for first test match against Australia and the only reason for his selection can be put down to the MCC’s spirit of the game tournament despite failing to score in the warm-up matches. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811 was dropped in place of Farhat despite the fact that Yasir scored an unbeaten 58 against Leicestershire while Imran scored 3 runs on 33 deliveries.
Imran Farhat lacks patience and is always desperate to play outside the off stump. Slips are always ready for a practice catch whenever he is batting in the middle. Scathing criticism has come about since his selection. Courtesy to Imran Farhat, the slip fielders get a chance to improve their catching records is how many former cricketers have concluded with. The only time the slip fielders find it unlucky is when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 instead of playing for his nation. Experts have suggested that if Imran Farhat did anything good to Pakistan cricket, it was opting to go out of the national team and play for the ICL.
Farhat played his last ODI series in 2006 where his performance was far from satisfactory. In his last five one-day internationals, Imran only managed scores of 6, 4, 17, 58 and 13 which is far from being good.
He was not allowed to play for Pakistan since he was banned for life for joining the ICL. Thankfully, Farhat is a family man and his father-in-law exercised his muscles and his position in the PCB to make sure that his son-in-law makes it to the national squad. Mohammad Ilyas, the father-in-law of Imran Farhat is also very controversial person for his position in the selection committee. Ilyas had threatened the selection committee to pick his son-in-law or face the music only a year ago. He promised to create problems for the members of the selection committee back then if Farhat was not selected in the team. At that time, the selectors stood by their decision and dropped him for the Sri Lankan series which was held in Abu Dhabi. Ilyas came up with a better idea and became a vital member of the selection committee himself and as a result, Farhat finds himself in the playing eleven. As long as Mohammad Ilyas will stay in the selection panel, Imran will remain well on course to become a veteran cricketer with 100 Test matches under his belt and 250 ODI’s with an average of a paltry 18 runs per match.
His current averages 31.32 runs in one-day internationals after representing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 make him an automatic selection for playing eleven. Not to forget his impressive track record in the last five ODI’s.
Some media reports called him a cry-baby when during a tour, Farhat called a selector in the middle of night to ask why he was dropped from the team. The matter got so heated up that the PCB had to fine Imran Farhat for this dissent.
One media report claimed that the only reason for his selection is that he is an exceptional husband, who keeps his wife and father-in-law happy. In return, his father-in-law’s first and foremost agenda in the selection committee is to restore Farhat’s place in international arena.
Good luck Pakistan cricket!
