The duo of V Shem, Kok Siang marches into main draws of Swiss Open – Badminton News
The Malaysian Men’s doubles team Goh V Shem-Teo Kok Siang marched into the main draws after beating their compatriot team of Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong in qualifying round of Swiss Open on March 13, 2012.
The victorious duo hammered their opponents with final figures of 14-21, 21-19 and 21-19. The crucial match lasted for 42 minutes and both teams strived hard to represent the country in the main draws.
The duo of V Shem and Kok Siang will start their race to glory by playing against the German couple Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler in the first round of main draws.
They reserved their rights to carry Malaysian flag by clearing the qualifying round. The duo thrashed the Swiss couple Livio Dorizzi-Morten Kragh before they put halt to their compatriot pair’s progress in last encounter of qualifiers.
The male doubles experts V Shem-Kok Siang were little sluggish in the start as they failed to handle brisk attack of Mak Hee Chun-Tan Wee Kiong and knelt down in opening set of the match.
The coordination between Hee Chun and Tan Wee was superb when they registered decisive score 21-14 on the score board and stood one step ahead of their challengers on the match score sheets.
However, the duo V Shem-Kok Siang found their lost chemistry in very next game and bounced back into match by levelling the lead.
They put a great show while reaching to the final score position of 21-19 in the second set. They made some critical mistakes which allowed their rivals to score 19 points but still they controlled most part of the game and ensured their presence in the
race.
The third set turned consequential with whole nation waiting for the drop scene. The Champion duo V Shem-Kok Siang ended the guess game by sealing the 2-1 victory with concluding margin of 21-19.
They are now scheduled to face German pair Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler in main draws. The other Malaysian couple will be Teik Chai Gan-Bin Shen Tan who will strive to escort Malaysia to glory in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold tournament.
