The duo of V Shem, Kok Siang stays on course to success in Swiss Open – Badminton News
The Men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Teo Kok Siang of Malaysia stayed on course to success and surged into second round of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold on March 14, 2012.
The newly formed pair V Shem-Kok Siang edged their opponent German duo Ingo Kindervater- Johannes Schoettler by sealing a straight-set victory.
Their skills will be tested now in pre quarter-finals when they will lock horns with the top seeded pair Chai Biao-Guo Zhendong from China.
The male partners, who earned their spot in main draws by clearing the qualifying round, started their main round marathon with a flashy run in opening match. They swept the board by putting final figures of 21-16 and 21-17 on it in just 32 minutes.
The first set was curtain raiser of the splendid show as the duo of V Shem and Kok Siang launched a swift attack straight away in the opening game.
Their coordination was superb as they completely outclassed their rival German pair Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler in all departments of the game. The Malaysian pair dominated most part of the first set and made their opponents to trail behind them
on the score board.
They bagged the first match point by ticking a decisive margin of 21-16 in the score log. The first set win boosted their spirits as in next game they entered in court with psychological supremacy.
However, the losing contenders Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler put a decent fight in the final set as there were four times when they successfully keep their competitors away from scoring the game points.
But the Germans were gone with the wind owing to victorious duo’s gutsy performance. The couple of V Shem and Kok Siang stole the limelight by registering the concluding score of 21-17 on the board.
Meanwhile, the other Malaysian couple Teik Chai Gan-Bin Shen Tan got out of the event, leaving whole responsibility on their compatriot duo’s shoulders.
Earlier, the national doubles chief coach Tan Kim Her gambled by breaking Goh V Shem’s partnership with Lim Khim Wah, which was ranked 30 in world rankings and the newly formed duo V Shem-Kok Siang has proved the coach Kim Her right by keeping the nation’s
hopes alive in Swiss Open.
